How to install an eSIM on iPhone and Android
Installation is usually quick, but the timing matters. The safest pattern is to buy the plan early, confirm device compatibility, and install when you are ready to use the travel line.
Before you scan the QR code
- Make sure the phone is unlocked and supports eSIM.
- Have a stable Wi-Fi connection for the first installation.
- Keep the QR email available on another device if possible.
- Read the activation rule so you do not start validity too early.
iPhone setup
- Open Settings, then Mobile Data or Cellular.
- Tap Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan.
- Choose Use QR Code and scan the code from your email.
- Name the line clearly so you do not confuse it with your home SIM.
- Set mobile data and data roaming based on the provider instructions.
Android setup
- Open Settings, then Network, SIM Manager, or Connections.
- Select Add eSIM, Download SIM, or a similar option.
- Scan the QR code or enter the activation details manually.
- Confirm which SIM handles data, calls, and messages.
- Turn on data roaming for the travel line if required.
Common setup mistakes
- Installing too early on plans that start when downloaded.
- Turning off the eSIM line after installation and forgetting to reactivate it.
- Leaving mobile data on the home SIM and triggering roaming charges.
- Deleting the eSIM profile before the trip ends.
